Specialist Lawyer Handles High Profile Case
A growing number of lawyers who specialize in one area of the law set up boutique law firms. New York-based defense attorney Alexei Schacht, who handled the historic case of Oded Tuito, established his own firm in 2012.
Israeli national Oded Tuito allegedly headed one of the biggest ecstasy-pushing organizations. However, Alexei Schacht, Mr. Tuito’s defense attorney, insisted the authorities wildly exaggerated his client’s reputation and exploits. Believed to be responsible for smuggling the largest pill shipments into the United States, Mr. Tuito appeared on the wanted lists of the Israeli courts and the United States. Authorities in Spain arrested Mr. Tuito, and the U.S. extradited him after years of legal battles.
The specialization of lawyers in their legal practices is a deviation from the general practice culture of many big law firms. This particular case garnered a lot of media and public attention, and Alexei Schacht effectively proved that it is not mandatory to be a huge, multipurpose firm to handle high profile cases.
